After managing to score three goals already this term, Fernando Torres finally seems to be turning into the player that the Blues shelled £50m for in 2011. Following this start, the former Liverpool striker claims that he feels more responsibility this term and wants to fill the gap left by the popular Didier Drogba.

After joining the club in January last year, Torres struggled immensely to make an impact and was often mocked by opposing supporters for his failures in front of goal, after the Blues had invested so much money on him. A lot of people also seemed to think that the Spanish ace was constantly living in the shadow of Didier Drogba, who was quite clearly the favoured striker amongst supporters at Stamford Bridge.

Following Drogba’s exit during the summer, it would be fair to say that the responsibility is now firmly on Torres’ shoulders to produce the goods in front of goal. This is something that he seems to recognise, as he told the Daily Star, “Didier is not here anymore, so there is more responsibility for me and I’m ready for the challenge. Now, I am looking for new personal targets, like getting as many goals as possible – hopefully more than in my best season at Liverpool. I think it’s a good time – especially for me – to give something back to the fans”.

Following on from such comments, Torres will be hoping to return to the form that saw him grab three goals in the opening four matches of the season. He has now failed to score in his last two fixtures although with one of those being that disastrous 4-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid, he can at least be forgiven for struggling somewhat. Still, as well as the goals, the 28-year-old has looked much more impressive in all other areas of his game and many have already noticed this.
